The Jones Benally Family Native American Dancers Perform Live at Sedona Center this Memorial Day Weekend
Sedona, Ariz. (May 9, 2006) –Sedona Center presents a special Memorial Day weekend celebration with The Jones Benally Family Native American Dancers on Saturday, May 27 from 1 pm to 4 pm in the courtyard of Sinagua Plaza – Sedona Center’s two-story shopping center.
The Jones Benally Family, from the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona, has garnered national and international recognition for their traditional cultural dances. World Champion Hoop dancer and traditional Navajo medicine practitioner Jones Benally mesmerizes the audience with stories and dances of the Navajo (Diné) culture. With his children Jeneda, Klee and Clayson Benally, the program enchants and teaches onlookers about the traditional Navajo ways.
The Jones Benally Family’s performance repertoire is extensive – with nearly 30 dances that teach the history of ceremonies, agriculture, hunting and the foundation of the Navajo culture. The family is a living demonstration of traditional values, lore, history and culture.
“We are thrilled that the Benally Family is performing at Sedona Center,” said Jeff Siet, newly appointed Property Manager of the 10-acre property in Uptown Sedona. “They spend much of their time performing at festivals, universities and museums around the world, recently having been in West Africa’s Sahara Desert and the tip of the Artic Circle in the Yukon Territories. We’re lucky to get them to Sedona!”
The Jones Benally family has been featured in countless national and international television and radio programs, as well as magazine and newspaper stories. Jones Benally is also a Canyon Records recording artist and his children perform in “Blackfire,” an award-winning high-energy alternative rock band.
Sinagua Plaza at Sedona Center is located just past the midtown stop light in Uptown Sedona. This venue features shaded seating for children and families. After visiting Sinagua Plaza, walk over to Sedona Center Park to check out “Canyon Climb,” the Center’s new 25-foot public rock climbing wall.
As always, Sedona Center’s events are free, and there is plenty of public parking behind Sinagua Plaza. For more information, please 282-4527.
